2014 Varied edition of 40 lithographs, each 20 ¾” x 15 ½” Included in Embellish exhibition at Open Studio, Toronto Publication with essay by Patrick Mahon “Touching, Tracing and Embellishing – One Thing After Another: The Gestures of Jeannie Thib, Eight Print Media Artists, and the Workshop of the World”
This varied edition of prints engages with patterning, in the interplay between difference and repetition, as well as handwriting, with respect to physical acts and conceptual notions of repeatability. In One Thing After Another, patterned repetition exists on several levels. The clichéd phrase “one thing after another” suggests a linked chain of events, a serial progression. Then there is handwriting in my ‘signature style’, recognizable through habitual use.
The individual prints’ varying bands of colour possess their own aspects of difference and repetition, with the overall series of forty prints reenacting a similar dynamic. Despite the extremely restricted palette, there is a range of permutational possibilities along the spectrum of white, through grey, to black. In the end, these prints perform exactly what they announce: one thing after another one thing after another one thing after another one thing after another, ad infinitum.
